For those wanting to qualify as UKCP registered and EATA qualified CTA (Certified Transactional Analysis) Psychotherapists with both national and international accreditation/recognition.
The course we offer is a combined counselling and psychotherapy training and therefore both qualifications can be gained on the same course and qualifications and accreditation can be built on. To gain this qualification you need to attend a TA101, successfully completed the Foundation Year in TA and the 2 years of Diploma in Counselling Course and then a further year. The total training for this is therefore four years part time (10 weekends per year). The Saturdays are theory days (see below) and the Sundays are set aside for the training group to set the agenda for the day; these days could be revisiting theory, looking at client presentation, supervision, exam preparation, skills training, mock exams or anything the group is wanting apart from personal therapy.
Pre Course requirement: Attendance of TA101, successful completion of Foundation Year in TA Theory and successful completion of Diploma in Counselling Course Year 1 and 2 of training, a minimum of 120 hours of personal therapy, tutor endorsement to continue training.
Course Dates commencing October 2018 (Clinical Year 3 – Academic Year 2018/2019)
Assessment: Assessment is ongoing on the course and involves theory knowledge, self-awareness, and willingness to hear feedback, skills competency, and formal assessments as below
Personal Therapy: Students need to be in ongoing therapy throughout the four years training and usually until they take their exam (min 40 hours per year).
Exam Criteria: To take this exam students must have successfully completed four years training, have completed at least 160 hours of personal therapy, conducted a minimum of 750 hours of client work (individual + some group/couples work), had supervision from a TA supervisor at a ratio of 1:5, completed an extra 500 hours of other relevant training (some of this can be from before the start this course). The exam consists of a written exam and then an oral exam.
Qualification: The CTA (Certified Transactional Analyst) is an EATA (European Association for Transactional Analysis) qualification with international recognition and also automatically gives you UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) which also entitles you to be on the UKCP’s PSA (Professional Standards Authority) government approved, voluntary register for counsellors and psychotherapists.
APL (Accreditation of Prior Learning) : If you are already a qualified counsellor or have completed some TA training elsewhere it may be possible to APL you on to this course. Please contact us for further details.
4 years (Foundation Certificate plus 3 further years) – each year is 10 weekends, one per month between Oct and July, 9.30-4.30 on both days.
