Foundation Certificate in Transactional Analysis Theory (online)

This live online course (using Zoom) is for those who would like to deepen their theoretical knowledge of TA and to apply it in a range of areas such as personal development, counselling, coaching, management, care work, parenting, education, and psychotherapy.

This is a stand- alone Certificate in TA Theory. If you are interested in progressing onto our face to face counselling (advanced TA) and psychotherapy training in October 2021, based in Plumpton, East Sussex, there will be an APL (accreditation of prior learning) route .  Teaching will be  online (via Zoom) led by a small group of Link Centre core tutors, and will be interactive, with taught elements, case examples and experiential exercises and breakout rooms will be frequently used.

  • Module 1. The foundations of TA, learning expectations and group contract ( Contracting)
  • Module  2. Different aspects of the self and other (Ego States)
  • Module 3. Communication styles and social needs (Transactions and Strokes)
  • Module 4. Early experiences and foundations of our beliefs (Script, Life Positions)
  • Module  5. Early decisions and how they affect us (Drivers and Injunctions)
  • Module  6. Attachment, brain function and child development (Child Development, Attachment)
  • Module 7. Repetitive patterns with self and others (Games and Rackets)
  • Module 8. Groups and how they affect us (Group boundaries/process)
  • Module 9. How we maintain our view of the world (Discounting/Symbiosis/ Passivity)
  • Module 10. Personality types and saying goodbye (Personality Adaptations)


Course Dates:  The course will delivered online on 35 Wednesday evenings and 2.5 weekends between 26th September and 16th July 2021. A full schedule of proposed dates can be found here.

Assessment: Ongoing learning journal, short questionnaires following each module, two essays on aspects of TA (2000, 1000 words). 80% online attendance is required to gain your Certificate (any missed sessions will require catch up work).

Personal Therapy: Personal therapy (min 40 sessions per year) is a requirement for those wanting to continue on to the advanced clinical years. For those who only want to attend this year,  personal therapy is strongly encouraged to get the best from the course.

Recognition: On completion of this course successful participants will be awarded a Certificate in TA Theory.
