Our five-day (30 hour) online Certificate in Trauma-Focused Therapy training course is a collaboration of The Link Centre and Manchester Psychotherapy Foundation and will be delivered by Dr Mark Widdowson.
Online Trauma Training:
This five-day online training in trauma counselling will provide practising counsellors and psychotherapists with a detailed understanding of how to work effectively with trauma in therapy and counselling.
In the trauma counselling course you will learn a range of practical techniques and approaches which will enable you to work effectively with clients who have experienced trauma. The entire range of traumatic experiences, from single-incident and multiple trauma to severe and prolonged trauma and will include protocols for working with trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD. The trauma therapy course will also explore the impact of different kinds of trauma on the individual and how to work with them effectively in therapy.
Trauma Psychotherapy:
The course is based on the New Haven competencies for the psychological therapy of trauma and will be taught using a range of evidence-based teaching and learning methods.
These evidence-based competencies were developed by a group of international experts on trauma as a means of identifying best practice and have subsequently been adopted by the American Psychological Association. Additionally, this course complies with the guidelines for mental health and interventions training developed by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies

Course outline:
Coursework and assessment: Participants will complete a reflective workbook throughout the duration of the course, which will evidence how they have met the relevant competencies required for certification as a trauma therapist.
It is recommended that participants set aside one to two hours per week for reading and reflective writing based on their learning and experiences during the workshops and their implementation of the material in their practice. This recommendation is to enable participants to get the most out of the training and cement their learning.
Course Delivery: Live online on Zoom
Participant Numbers: There will be a maximum of 40 participants on this course
Pre-Course Requirements: Participants should be qualified counsellors or in training and seeing clients in placement. (Students in training should talk through their planned attendance with their supervisor / course tutor)

Dr Mark Widdowson, PhD, MSc, ECP, TSTA(P), FHEA
Mark is a senior lecturer in counselling and psychotherapy at the University of Salford, Manchester, UK. He is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, holder of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy, and specialist trauma therapist. In addition to his academic work, Mark maintains a private practice for individuals and couples in central Manchester.
With twenty-five years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist, Mark has also worked extensively with a full spectrum of trauma survivors, including survivors of physical and/ or sexual violence, war refugees and torture survivors. He has trained in numerous trauma therapies over the years.
He is also the author of Transactional Analysis: 100 Key Points and Techniques and Transactional Analysis for Depression: A Step-by-Step Treatment Manual, both published by Routledge. He is an active psychotherapy researcher and was awarded the European Association for Transactional Analysis Silver medal in 2014 and the International Transactional Analysis Association research award in 2017 for his contributions to the evidence base for transactional analysis.

This 6 hour online workshop is aimed at people who want to develop or enhance their ability to work relationally with clients. It is for all levels from first year trainees to qualified practitioners.
A 24 hour online course (4 x Fri and 4 x Sat) providing an overview of working with addiction and the psycho-social-neurobiological factors to be considered for therapeutic practitioners who are working with addictive processes in their practice.
