Overview: Split over two weekends, this introductory course has been devised for therapists and health professionals looking to enhance their knowledge, ability and confidence when working with eating disorders and obesity in order to be able to work competently and ethically in supporting their clients.

Course Details:

An academic & experiential introduction course for health professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of eating disorders & obesity. Run by Bernie Wright BACP (Accred) Counsellor /Psychotherapist and professional trainer in association with National Centre for Eating Disorders, you will learn how to recognise an eating disorder, how to support recovery and add to your skills as a counsellor or health professional. Bernie has worked for many years in this field, and now works as a mentor, supervisor and trainer for the NCFED and has a private practice.

Bernie will be joined by specialist colleagues to deliver the course covering the following areas;

 An understanding of eating disorders

 How to identify an eating disorder

 Eating disorder triggers

 The physical and mental effects of an eating disorder and obesity (including binge eating)

 Working therapeutically with an eating disorder sufferer and those wanting support with obesity and binge eating.

 Nutrition and its role in recovery (covered by Lisa Smith Nutritionist at Nutriology, Corporate Consultant and Senior Lecturer at Brighton University). Lisa has worked for many years as a guest speaker on Bernie’s course and as a nutritionist for both Bernie’s clients and for the clients of the counsellors that Bernie supervisors the work of.

 Supporting loved ones and carers of those with eating disorders (a short module, covered by Jenny Langley an extremely experienced carer with specialist training to deliver the New Maudsley Carer Skills workshop. Jenny wrote the book called Boys get Anorexia too, which outlined the recovery of her 12-year-old son and she also co-authored the book Caring for Your Loved Ones with an Eating Disorders with Janet Treasure and Gill Todd). Jenny’s experience in this field is outstanding and she has supported 1000’s of families and loved ones.

A Link Centre Certificate will be provided at the end of the course.

Course Fee: £445.  A deposit payment of £45 must be made on booking with the balance of £400 payable by 20th December 2020
