Certificate in Working with Gender Diversity (online)


This is an opportunity to learn more about the increasing number of people identifying as gender diverse. This includes people identifying as transgender, non-binary and gender fluid whose experience of gender doesn’t meet the expectations of our society.   Participants will learn about the unique challenges faced by clients seeking to achieve mind-body congruence as they explore their gender identity and the treatment available to them.

Participants will gain a better understanding of gender variance and gender dysphoria including the medical process people may go through.

This is an emerging client group and practitioners may feel curious, interested, anxious or that the presenting issues are beyond their experience to work with.  We will explore our own thoughts and feelings about gender identity.

The course will be a mixture of didactic teaching, experiential learning, reflective discussion and small group work and will take place online. It is suitable for those who have qualified and those who are still in training.

A Link Centre Certificate in Working with Gender Diversity will be provided at the end of the course.

Workshop aims and learning objectives:

  • Introduce an understanding of what it is to identify as gender diverse
  • Enhance awareness of the issues faced by people identifying as gender variant
  • Develop an understanding of terminology
  • Consider the effect of gender dysphoria on the clients experience and co-morbidity
  • Develop an understanding of the process a client undertakes if transitioning from one binary gender to another or seeks treatment to achieve gender comfort
  • Develop an understanding of what it is to identify as non-binary or gender fluid in a binary society
  • Invite an exploration of our thoughts and feelings about working with gender diverse people

Tutor: Liza Heatley is a UKCP registered Psychotherapist with an MSc in Psychotherapy and is an internationally endorsed trainer and supervisor (PTSTA, P) Liza is based in Devon, and works for the West of England Gender Identity Clinic and in private practice. She has presented workshops and seminars at the World TA Conference in Berlin; EATA conference and at various UKATA Registered Training Establishments throughout the UK. She is also a member of UKATA’S Diversity and Social Responsibility Committee and is a core tutor at The Link Centre,
