“We will meet; and there we may rehearse most obscenely and courageously” – William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act I
The Certificate in Delivering Group Therapy is designed for qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, and advanced trainees who wish to expand their practice and make a meaningful impact through working with groups.
Given their capacity to reduce isolation, therapeutic groups can provide members with the vital experience of support and belonging that in and of itself can be transformative. Moreover, groups have the potential to provide a unique opportunity for exploring relational dynamics as they unfold in the here and now. Through this process participants can develop a clearer understanding of how one experiences and is experienced by others, providing the necessary ground for developing new ways of ‘being with’. For these reasons, facilitating groups has therefore always been and continues to be a core feature of psychotherapeutic practice.
Moving out of the dyad and into group therapy requires therapists to develop specific skills on behalf of the therapist. Accordingly, this course combines didactic and experiential teaching methods to deepen your knowledge, experience and skills in delivering group therapy.
Alongside this, the course supports your learning by offering opportunities to experience both group membership and group leadership throughout the course.
