Barbara Wattiez
Barbara is a relational TA psychotherapist with over 10 years of experience in the NHS and private practice. She holds an MSc (TA psychotherapy), a certificate in supervision, and is a Provisional Training and Supervising Transactional Analyst.
She has worked for many years in the City as a trainer and Business Analyst, which she now does part time. She also has a private psychotherapy and supervision practice in St Leonards-On-Sea where she moved during Covid and works with individuals and couples in English and in French.
She started a psychotherapy book group locally and hopes to start a therapeutic group soon.
She is passionate about the relational approach in TA and she says: “relationships shape and re-shape who we are, and in turn how we relate. This means that I see the power of therapy as lying in the relationship that we build with our clients, as two equals“.
Her areas of particular interest are bereavement and loss, body image and self-esteem, and relational power dynamics.
In another life, Barbara studied sociology and law for her masters in journalism, igniting her interest in questions of power, ethics, and justice, and one of the sources of her strong belief in the importance of context (social, political, cultural etc.).
Barbara loves walking in the countryside, and since moving to the seaside, sea swimming – don’t get her started on sewage spills – which stimulates her to reflect on the healing power of reconnecting with nature.
Regarding the opportunity to teach, Barbara says: “learning is a life long, enormously enjoyable project for me, and teaching is the other side of the coin: being part of a group’s experiential learning directly impacts my own growth as well as my feeling alive and stimulated. So it feels like a real privilege to join the team at the Link Centre”.
