Certificate in Counselling Skills in-person (30-hour course)

Certificate in Counselling Skills

This 30-hour course will be held in-person over two weekends. It is open to those at all stages of their training and clinical practice. We will utilise a reflective inquiry method that will enable participants to identify their growing edges.

The course has been designed with the following aims in mind:

  • To support participants to identify where they are uniquely at with areas of their skills practice and to define a skills goal they would like to achieve during the workshop.
  • To support participants to actively develop their skills through practice sessions designed to meet their goals.
  • To provide opportunities to both reflect on and work on what process barriers may be interfering with the development of these skills.
  • To provide an opportunity for participants at any stage of their training and/or post-qualifying career to address pertinent growing edges of their practice.
  • To provide students with a 30-hour training certificate which can be counted towards their required training hours and/or CPD.

Training Overview

  • To learn and practise the fundamentals of counselling skills.
  • To explore the therapeutic relationship and think about the counselling style of the individual.
  • To explore how identity and cultural background informs the therapeutic relationship.
  • To think about and practice how to use supervision effectively.

There will be small group learning, exercises, practice, and feedback as well as time in the larger group. We will draw from a range of theories with an emphasis on the practical, learning skills to take away and use.

This course was not a manifestation of a textbook- perfect for real learning! Zaynab and Liz and their connection was felt, in their responsiveness, skills, knowledge and experience. I felt held and inspired. The exercise and feedback on countertransference- super helpful. This course is beyond a textbook, based in the reality of the therapy relationship. – Lou, September 2024

I loved the weekend. I knew Liz would be great but it was a nice surprise to have Zay who was an amazing calm presence and brought a huge amount to the weekend. It was more enjoyable than I expected- it was challenging at times as I knew it would be but it felt so positive, encouraging and offered loads of areas to explore and hopefully help with my clients. (So thank you!) – John, September 2024

Very safe place. Sharing about client work/challenges and sharing different options. Intersectionality explorations and transferences. Real privilege to have an intimate weekend of training. Learnt a lot about my own process and allowed me to see areas of growth more clearly Zay + Liz= dream team! -Becs, September 2024
